Part of campers daily schedule will be 90 minutes of sport activity time in the MAPS gym. The beginning of each week will be spent learning the fundamental skills and strategies for the "Sport of the Week". As the week progresses, activity time will increase in game time and decrease in practice time.
Basically, Pickleball is Indoor Tennis that is played with whiffle balls and hard plastic paddles.
Badminton is a net game that involves hitting a "birdie" back and forth over the net using a racket with the purpose making it touch the ground on the opponent's side to score a point.
Flag Football is the non-contact version of American Football where a player's flag is pulled to be considered "down" rather than tackling to the ground.
*Note: this week will focus on skill development more than game play
Ultimate Frisbee is played by passing the Frisbee down the field with the purpose of making a catch in the "endzone" for a score. Players cannot run with possession of the Frisbee, thus the Frisbee can only be moved with passing.
Soccer is a game that is played by kicking the ball around the field with the purpose of kicking it into the goal for a point.
Lacrosse is a game that is played by passing and shooting a ball using a long-handled stick with a net attached to the top end.
*Note: we will be playing a non-contact, flag-pulling version
Floor Hockey is a game that is played using a long-handled stick with a curved blade at the end that is used to push the ball around the floor, pass, shoot, and play defense.
