"Don't ask for less challenge, ask for more skills. Don't wish it was easier; wish you were better."

13GEM Sporting Fall Homeschool PE 2026

Program Overview

13GEM Sporting will be starting a Homeschool PE program at Marymoor Park in Redmond by providing a multi-tiered program for boys and girls in grades K-8th.  This will be a unique program that blends fitness and sports modalities into a unified curriculum.  Students will get equal exposure to fitness learning such as cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular strength and endurance, and flexibility and sports learning such as throwing, catching, and kicking a ball, offensive and defensive strategies, and rules and procedures of sports.

Students will be divided into two grade groupings: K-2nd and 3rd-8th; each grade grouping will have its own time slot.  Weekly sessions occur on consistent days and times.  All skill levels are welcome- from beginners to advanced.  This program will be coached by Coach Jacob and other 13GEM Sporting coaches, so all students will receive expert coaching and high-quality programming that results in massive growth and major joy in your student(s).  Sessions will focus equally on skill development, gameplay, and workout routines with an emphasis on growth and learning, not merely participation.  This is a major feature of all 13GEM Sporting programs.

The intention is to further subdivide the 3rd-8th grouping into 3rd-5th and 6th-8th, however, this will depend on registration numbers.  More registration numbers will allow for greater division amongst specific grades.  Each grade subdivided group will get their own area to practice and play with students at similar developmental levels.

What is Physical Education?

There is a major difference between Physical Education, Physical Activity, & Athletics.

The intent of Physical Education is to help students learn the skills necessary for performing a variety of physical activities and understand the benefits of achieving and maintaining a physically active Lifestyle.

Physical Education is defined as:

A planned, sequential program of curricula and instruction that helps students develop the knowledge, attitudes, motor skills, self-management skills, and confidence needed to adopt and maintain a physically active and healthy Lifestyle.

Physical Education programs are the ONE place that:

- ALL children can participate in regular physical activity

- ALL children can become physically educated for a Lifetime of physical activity

PHYSICAL EDUCATION SHOULD BE TREATED WITH THE SAME LEVEL OF PROFESSIONAL CONCERN AS OTHER ESSENTIAL ACADEMIC DISCIPLINES AND LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS..

What is NOT Physical Education?

ATHLETICS

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

Athletics is defined as an active sport that requires physical exertion and competition and involves a contest between athletes.  While athletics typically focuses on one sport, Physical Education will teach knowledge of skills and concepts necessary for safe and healthy Living and in turn, for successful learning.  Athletics are optional and does not promote participation by ALL students.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

Physical activity is defined by the Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as any bodily movement produced by the contraction of skeletal muscles resulting in energy expenditure

RECESS

EXERCISE

EXERCISE

Recess provides unstructured play opportunities that allow children to engage in physical activities, however as normally provided, it cannot be used to meet the requirement of an average of 100 instructional minutes per week of Physical Education

EXERCISE

EXERCISE

EXERCISE

Exercise is a subset of physical activity that is planned, structured, and repetitive, and is done to improve or maintain physical fitness

Why is Physical Education essential?

  • Inactivity is the leading cause of preventable death.
  • Physical activity and exercise is the application of what is learned in Physical Education class.
  • Quality Physical Education programs are important because they provide learning experiences that meet children's developmental needs, which in turn helps to improve mental alertness, academic performance, and enthusiasm for learning.

What is Mobile PE for Co-ops & Small Groups?

There has been an increase in demand from homeschool co-ops and independent groups with consistent student populations that would like to add a quality PE Program to their curriculum.  13GEM has created "Homeschool PE for Co-Ops and Independent Groups" to accommodate this need.
