13GEM Sporting Soccer will be providing a multi-tiered program for boys and girls ages 4-13. Players will be divided into two age groupings: 4-7 and 8-13; each age grouping will have its own time slot. Weekly sessions occur on consistent days and times. All skill levels are welcome- from beginners to advanced. This program will be coached by Coach Jacob and other 13GEM Sporting coaches, so all players will receive expert coaching and high-quality programming that results in massive growth and major joy in your child(ren). Sessions will focus equally on skill development and gameplay with an emphasis on growth and learning, not merely participation. This is a major feature of all 13GEM Sporting programs.
The intention is to further subdivide the groupings based on the following:
Ages 4-7 will be further subdivided into 4-5 yo and 6-7 yo
Ages 8-13 will be further subdivided into 8-10 yo and 11-13 yo
Provide separate groupings for boys and girls ages 8-13 yo, however, this will depend on registration numbers
Each age subdivided group will get their own field to practice and play with players at similar developmental levels.

13GEM Sporting uses a single uniform kit for the entire club, regardless of sport, age, or gender. This fosters a greater sense of unity amongst the players. The uniform kit consists of a fully customized jersey with player-chosen name and number on back, 13GEM Sporting branded shorts, and a pair of black premium soccer socks.
All new players are encouraged to purchase a Replica t-shirt or customized uniform kit from the 13GEM Shop for a separate fee. You will answer uniform kit customization questions during registration and complete payment via the Online Shop. (see below)
Starting Fall 2026, families can choose from three uniform kit options to customize:
Returning players from any previous Soccer season with a fully customized kit have a choice to continue using the previous customized kit or purchase a new kit. This kit will be used for the next several years (or until the vendor discontinues it), so it is advised to buy the kit a bit large so players can grow into it over several seasons.
New players who do not want to purchase 13GEM garments from the Shop must wear all black to 13GEM practices. Please do not wear other colors, uniform kits or shirts from other clubs or organizations. This includes local youth clubs as well as professional sports teams.
Players not wearing all black or 13GEM garments will not be permitted on the field.

Each practice will have periods devoted to developing skills and conceptual understanding- regardless of age or skill level. Players will interact with other players on the team during the practice portion to develop skills and learn concepts. Each practice will focus on developing fundamental skills of dribbling, passing, shooting, and defending. One major differentiator of 13GEM Sporting programs is the ability to teach abstract concepts such as team spacing, maintaining relationships with teammates, off-ball movement, sharing the ball with teammates, basic algorithms of dribble-pass, and much more.
1v1, small-sided, and full-sided gameplay periods will allow players to synthesize skills and knowledge learned in practice, express creativity, develop decision-making algorithms, and just have fun playing Soccer. Players will be placed into a variety of game-like situations within Soccer and play amongst each other. The objective is for players to play as much as possible so they can apply skills and knowledge learned during practice time. Players are taught the procedures of Soccer during gametime, such as throw-ins, goal kicks, corner kicks, and kickoffs. We heavily emphasize the development of teamwork, sharing the ball through passing, and the beginnings of off-ball awareness during gameplay. Gameplay is how we end each soccer session, all players get equal play time, and the score is always "Fun to Fun".

Foundational skill development is the cornerstone of this program. 13GEM Sporting excels in maximizing growth and development across all skills of dribbling, passing, shooting, and defending. Activities are designed for high participation rates because the only way to learn Soccer is to get lots of touches on the ball. Algorithms like "dribble/pass" are introduced.

The first major abstract concept 13GEM coaches is spacing. Players are first taught the layout of the field, then are taught the context of the field such as "Central" or "Wide" areas of the field. Practice activities are designed for players to explore all areas of the field and start to develop a mental map.

The second major abstract concept 13GEM coaches is relationships; we are an "anti-clump" program. We start teaching "off-ball" skills and responsibilities such as "making a run" so a teammate can pass it. We emphasize that there are jobs to do without the ball. The "on-ball" emphasis is seeing and combining with teammates through consistent passing.

Awareness arises naturally when skill, spacing, and relationship understanding coalesce into a single player. Awareness is reading the game, making decisions, and executing each play. 13GEM implements activities that challenge players to not only play soccer, but to process Soccer. 13GEM specializes in developing awareness in players of all ages.

This is a grass field located across from the Velodrome and Cricket Field in the middle of Marymoor Park. Players will have the opportunity to practice and play on a full grass field, which offers a different experience than turf fields. Players will develop a well-rounded feel for the ball because grass fields tend to be imperfect, stickier, and more resistant to ball movement, so players will need to learn how to apply force to the ball in different ways based on surface feel.

These are the artificial turf fields in the front part of Marymoor Park. Players will have the opportunity to practice and play on artificial turf fields, which offers ideal field conditions in all weather. Players are able to focus on ball touch and control without worrying about the surface affecting the ball. Artificial turf fields tend to offer less resistance to ball movement, so players will need to learn how to modulate the force of their touches on the faster, less restrictive surface of the turf.
These fields are difficult to rent during "normal" youth sports times due to larger clubs' blackout reservations, so we only have a few practices on these fields.
After the wonderful success of the first ever Trophy Ceremony at the end of the Spring Season, we will have another Trophy Ceremony for the end of the Fall Season.
This will depend greatly on numbers, the bigger the club, the more expansive this event will be. The club will be divided into small-sided teams and will play in a Group Stage format. At the end of the Group Stage, the two best teams will compete in a World Cup Finals game. There will be an individual Tournament for each age grouping.
All players will receive a personalized trophy at the end of the season. After the World Cup Event, the potluck will start and everyone is encouraged to eat at 3:30p. Once everyone gets some food, each player will be called and recognized to receive their trophy in front of the entire club and parents have an opportunity to take pictures. It will be an excellent way to close the Fall Season.
Below are basic Soccer training videos for players and families of 13GEM Sporting and those looking for ways to improve their skill.
This is literally the first activity 13GEM Sporting uses to teach absolute beginners how to control their dribble of a Soccer ball. This is a great warm-up and/or competitive mini-game for intermediate to advanced players as well.
This activity builds on the Gates Dribbling Activity. Players will dribble through 3 gates then take a shot, repeating this pattern for the duration of the activity. This teaches purposeful dribbling in space and towards a goal.
This activity progress from the Gates Dribbling Activity. Now the players are focused on anticipating and avoiding obstacles, such as defenders. The cones represent defenders and players practice dribbling from goal to goal and scoring.
This is the very first activity for the 5-cone set up used in other activities. The Duck Walk is designed to teach players how to use their instep to dribble the ball, rather than toes. It also starts to develop a light touch while dribbling the ball.
This dribbling activity is easy to perform with only 5 cones and a ball. Players develop dribbling touch and control while practicing stopping the ball and turning 180 degrees.
This activity is easy to perform with only 5 cones and a ball. Players work to develop the La Croqueta with both feet.
This dribbling activity teaches players a more advanced method of stopping a rolling ball and performing a 180-degree turn.
This dribbling activity teaches players how to dribble and take touches while running at full speed. The idea is that players learn how to properly weight a touch so they can maintain full speed running pace while not touching the ball too far away from the body, which results in loss of possession.
This dribbling activity teaches players how to dribble and scan between touches to plan a route through the midfield. This activity specifically teaches how to cut the ball at a 45-degree angle, using the inside and outside of both feet.
This dribbling activity teaches players how to dribble and scan between touches to plan a route through the midfield and avoid defenders. This activity specifically teaches how to cut the ball at a 90-degree angle, using the inside and outside of both feet.
This ball skill activity helps players develop touch with the top of the foot, builds rhythm in body movements, coordination between different parts of the body, and develops spatial awareness of the ball off the ground.
This passing activity is great for all levels of skill: it can be a motor development activity for beginners to intermediates and a warm-up activity for advanced players. It teaches players how to have quick feet, open hips to strike with instep, and develop passing skills on both feet.
This activity teaches players how to receive the ball using the inside of both feet (1st touch) then quickly transition to a pass using the instep of both feet (2nd touch). This is the most common type of passing in Soccer and should be practiced at all levels all the time.
This passing activity teaches players how to develop the skill of 1-touch passing, which is a vital skill in many offensive tactics. Players learn how to swing with anticipation at a moving ball rather than waiting for the ball to settle. Ensure players are getting equal practice with both feet.
This activity will allow solo players to practice and learn how to kick the ball into the air from the ground without needing to chase a ball everywhere. Chips are used in shorter, tighter spaces to elevate the ball above defenders' heads to make a pass. Crosses are used to kick the ball in the air across larger distances, like a switch pass or a cross into the box. Both are essential to a well-rounded passing skill set.
