13GEM Sporting Fall Flag Football 2026

Program Overview

13GEM Sporting will be providing a multi-tiered program for boys and girls ages 6-13.  Players will be divided into two age groupings: 6-8 and 9-13; each age grouping will practice simultaneously, but on different areas of the field.  Weekly sessions occur on consistent days and times.  All skill levels are welcome- from beginners to advanced.  This program will be coached by Coach Jacob and other 13GEM Sporting coaches, so all players will receive expert coaching and high-quality programming that results in massive growth and major joy in your child(ren).  Sessions will focus equally on skill development and gameplay with an emphasis on growth and learning, not merely participation.  This is a major feature of all 13GEM Sporting programs.

Fully Customized Kit Required

13GEM Sporting uses a single uniform kit for the entire club, regardless of sport, age, or gender.  This will foster a greater sense of unity amongst the players.  The uniform kit consists of a fully customized jersey with player-chosen name and number on back and 13GEM Sporting branded shorts.

All players must purchase customized uniform kit from the 13GEM Shop for a separate fee.  You will answer uniform kit customization questions during registration and complete payment via the Online Shop.

Starting Fall 2026, families can choose from three uniform kit options to customize:

  • Authentic Uniform Kit (long sleeve): $85
  • Authentic Uniform Kit (short sleeve): $80
  • Replica Uniform Kit (short sleeve): $50

Any players from any previous Soccer season with a fully customized kit have a choice to continue using the previous customized kit or purchase a new kit.  This kit will be used for the next several years (or until the vendor discontinues it), so it is advised to buy the kit a bit large so players can grow into it over several seasons.

Practice Time focused on Growth and Development

Each practice will have periods devoted to developing skills and conceptual understanding- regardless of age or skill level.  Players will interact with other players on the team during the practice portion to develop skills and learn concepts.  Each practice will focus on developing fundamental skills of throwing, catching, route running, and defending.  One major differentiator of 13GEM Sporting programs is the ability to teach abstract concepts such as route combinations, reading the defense on offense, reading the offense on defense, disguising routes on the stem, zone/man defensive concepts, baiting the QB in coverage, QB using eyes to manipulate a defense, and much more.

Game Time focused on Synthesis and Fun

Players will be placed into a variety of game-like situations within Flag Football and play amongst each other.  1v1, small-sided, and full-sided gameplay periods will allow players to synthesize skills and knowledge learned in practice, express creativity, develop decision-making algorithms, and just have fun playing Flag Football.  The objective is for players to play as much as possible so they can apply skills and knowledge learned during practice time.  Players are taught the procedures of Flag Football during gametime, such as down-and-distance for 1st Downs, lining up at the line-of-scrimmage, pre-snap adjustments, pre-snap and post-snap penalties, and calling plays in the huddle.  We heavily emphasize the development of QBs and passing the ball because passing, not running, is the QB's primary job.  Gameplay is how we end each Flag Football session, all players get equal play time, and the score is always "Fun to Fun".

Passing League Emphasis

The 13GEM Flag Football program is heavily focused on passing the ball.  While all players will be taught how to throw a football, only those players interested in learning the position of QB will be taught the finer details of calling plays, understanding concepts behind route combinations, reading the defense, pre-snap adjustments, and post-snap playmaking.  Players who choose to learn QB must be primarily passers first, scramblers only when necessary.  We will not allow "run-first" QBs to run an offense during gameplay.  Scrambling when necessary will be taught and encouraged; simply saying "Hut" and looking to run the ball will not.  The most successful QBs in history have been the ones who understood how to get the ball in the hands of their playmaking receivers, backs, and tight ends, and we will teach that at 13GEM Sporting Flag Football.

How will your player grow in 13GEM Sporting Flag Football?

Skills

Athleticism

Knowledge

Foundational skill development is the cornerstone of this program.  13GEM Sporting excels in maximizing growth and development across all skills of throwing, catching, running with the ball, and defending.  Activities are designed for high participation rates because the only way to learn Flag Football is to get lots of opportunities to make plays.

Knowledge

Athleticism

Knowledge

Players will learn the many rules, procedures, and strategies for playing.  A sequential curriculum will build from the basic concepts of individual routes to the complex concepts of reading the opposition pre- and post-snap.  The influence of down-and-distance on playcalling and decision-making will be taught from both sides of the ball.  Watching football on TV will become easier too.

Athleticism

Athleticism

Athleticism

Flag Football is a game of speed, agility, and aggression that requires fast-twitch muscular movements and dynamic coordination.  Drills and activities are designed so players can develop the motor coordination and force output need for performing juke moves, chasing a ball carrier down, and jumping for a contested catch.  You should see a noticeable increase in your player's athleticism.

Self-Esteem

Athleticism

Athleticism

Confidence naturally develops from being able to run faster, juke quicker, throw and catch a ball, and chase and flag-pull.  Throwing and catching a ball in general, and a football specifically, is a Life skill that raises self-esteem and provides social opportunities.  This will enable them to perform better during PE, recess, when playing in the neighborhood, and on Seahawks Sundays!

Learning on Various Surfaces

Marymoor Soccer Field 8

This is a grass field located across from the Velodrome and Cricket Field in the middle of Marymoor Park.  Players will have the opportunity to practice and play on a full grass field, which offers a different experience than turf fields.  Learning how to cut and plant based on field conditions is important when playing on grass.  Running routes across imperfect field conditions will require players to develop greater levels of coordination and proprioception to make real-time adjustments to their playmaking.

Marymoor Soccer Fields 1-6

These are the artificial turf fields in the front part of Marymoor Park.  Players will have the opportunity to practice and play on artificial turf fields, which offers ideal field conditions in all weather.  Players are able to focus on running, stop-starting, and cutting without worrying about the surface affecting their movement.  Artificial turf fields tend allow faster gameplay because the surface is less restrictive.

These fields are difficult to rent during "normal" youth sports times due to larger clubs' blackout reservations, so we only have a few practices on these fields.

End-of-Season Super Bowl Event & Trophy Ceremony

Ending the Season Strong

After the wonderful success of the first ever Trophy Ceremony at the end of the Spring Soccer Season, that newly formed Trophy Ceremony tradition will be added to the Flag Football program for the end of the Fall Season.

  • Sat Nov 14 from 1p-2:30p on Marymoor Soccer 8
  • Super Bowl Event from 1p-2:30p
  • Trophy Ceremony from 2:30p-3:30p
Potluck Event organized closer to the end of the season

Playoffs and Super Bowl Event

This will depend greatly on numbers, the bigger the club, the more expansive this event will be.  The club will be divided into small-sided teams and will play in a group stage format Playoff.  At the end of the Group Stage, the two best teams will compete in a Super Bowl game.  There will be an individual Playoff and Super Bowl for each age grouping.

Trophy Ceremony & Potluck

All players will receive a personalized trophy at the end of the season.  After the Super Bowl Event, the potluck will start and everyone is encouraged to eat at 2:30p.  Once everyone gets some food, each player will be called and recognized to receive their trophy in front of the entire club and parents have an opportunity to take pictures.  It will be an excellent way to close the Fall Season.
